Your sticky thread has been read but malware has already been run. The computer's owner is a member of Age Concern. My role is a volunteer to help the oldies keep online.
A Fake Windows Genuine Advantage has invaded the computer. Esys running Windows XP Pro. The demand to pay money to the scammers via UKASH has not been activated and it is still possible to run Windows. The email system has become compromised, it is running, but very slowly.
Spybot - Malwarebytes - SuperAntiSpyware free additions have been run and each have returned no threats. There is a suspicion that the virus is circumventing the spyware!!
The advice on the Web that can be found for XP Pro presumes that the virus scam has been activated. Your advice on how to remove this pest for an unactivated Fake WGA would be welcome. We are capable of manual removal from the Registry provided the instructions are clear.
