Okay, this is really hard to explain.
My laptop has been running for about a week now, and today when I woke up, I tried to access something on an already open chrome tab and suddenly shockwave player crashed, chrome became irresponsive. I closed it but the computer was running overall slow so I restarted it.
After the restart, I noticed that chrome doesn't want to start and tried to access task manager, but I got the following error:
"The logon process was unable to display security and logon options when CTRL ALT DEL was pressed. IF the operating system does not respond, press ESC or restart the computer by using the power switch"
Next thing I did was run a system restore to a couple of days ago, I didn't download or install anything malicious, like ever.
After the restore chrome actually booted up, and the system seemed to work for about 1-2 minutes, than it would started working slower and slower, and Task Manager wouldn't start. I ran an ESET NOD32 portable Virus scan and found some win32 miner.nab and some spyware things that were immediately deleted, but the system still didn't run properly.
Overall, here are the "symptoms"
- No executable starts (I actually managed to start task manager immediately after login screen and was constantly checking for weird looking processes, but couldn't find any. Whatever executable I would attempt to start would just stay on the process list, but wouldn't actually run)
- Some icon problems, they either load up really slow, or don't load at all
- explorer.exe seems to run fine, I can start and go around folders without any problems.
- start menu also runs fine
- I cannot connect to internet (I'm on a college network so credentials are required every time, but after I enter them, the LAN icon just shows the yellow triangle thing)
I am running in safe mode at the moment.
Please help?
