Computer is infected

I recently came back home from college to find my family's computer in pretty bad condition. Weird software has been installed that I personally have not seen before, maybe spyware maybe not, a couple are Wajam and AbsoluteTelNet (which looks like legit software but I know that no one installed it). Chrome browser has a Claro toolbar installed and searches are now forwarded to their search engine. Start-up has slowed and experimenting with running tasks I think I discovered that some task was preventing programs from starting up. Spybot S&D wasn't opening at one point as if mid execution it was cut off. Also Microsoft Security Essentials suddenly paused in the midst of installing an update and remained like so never completing the update. One last thing, which might explain some of these things, is that the computer is presenting the warning of hard disk failure. Important files have been backed up but I thought this might be because of some virus anyways. Who knows, I'm not very experienced with these types of things. Thanks in advance for the help!
