I have a hidden virus that just will not go away. I had it on an 8GB thumb drive and thought that I had killed it, but other copies are still in abundance. The virus consisted of three files: (1) about 235MB; (2) & (3) about 1GB each, but there may be more. I have run all the scanners you requested last year, but the virus still remains.
Would a good wiping of my hard drive kill the virus? I'll have to take it to a shop to do that. As it is, everytime I try to reinstall Vista, the bug makes itself known by unnecessarily reading files, ie, the 395MB installation file for my printer. If I hide the file by renaming the file or the folder that it is in, the virus finds it and starts reading.
What do I call for the technician to do in wiping the drive? Is there a special wiping that is necessary?
