I've run Windows Vista on my home machine for some years now. This morning, I discovered that my computer had turned off during the night. When I booted up, I was presented with a Windows XP login screen.
I did a search on my clean laptop and the only thing that popped up was the White Shark Virus, but I could not find the files that the instructions said would indicate White Shark's presence. I tried hitting F11 on startup, but got tossed into the WINDOWS XP RECOVERY process.
Now, I do have an old hard drive from a past computer, which I think did actually run Vista, that is plugged into my current computer. So perhaps, I thought, the boot order just inexplicably changed. On reflection, however, I don't think that's the case, as I can't find any of the documents and pictures that drive would have.
So, does anyone know what I'm dealing with, and how bad it is?
