Hello everyone, I need help with the family's laptop, it's a Hewlet Packard 2000 which came with Windows 7 installed but due to an upgrade program from retailer, it's running on Windows 8 now, it worked good for at least 2 years then it started having strange performance issues like having to click a second time on any link in order to open it and some temporary freezes when browsing the internet. I used Kaspersky online scan but never detected any problem except for the "vulnerabilities" like autorun from divices and such.
Last week I tried to get into my e-mail a second time and received a message from them(Yahoo) stating they detected suspicious activity and I have to change my Pass Word. I decided to use Panda Active scan and see if there was some malware and then things got A LOT stranger. First time I ran Panda (Cloud Cleaner is the available option for Windows 8) it took from 7:55pm Friday until 9:22pm Saturday and when the scan was around 80% the PC restarted by itself, no one touched it, so I decided to try again and after more than 9 hours and at 85.5% complete, it did not restart but I got send back to the "Tiles screen" as when the PC is turned on. So I noticed that something prevents the scan from going to certain areas, so I did a selective scan, I don't remember the areas I scanned but I have the report of the viruses and malware found if you need it.
After that I decided to try once more but this time with ESET online scan. This scan stalled at around 28% and at 29% the laptop restarted by itself again. I Have the DDS and GMER already but I want to be sure if I the procedures and tools are the same for Windows 8 as for Windows Vista, XP and 7. Should I run one of them first? Thanks a lot for your time
