Win32?

I know seeing the number 32 isn't good. Anyhow, I think my computer (using Windows 7, 64 bit) caught something and I'm having all kinds of bizarre problems, from graphical glitches to freezing, to slow activity (just in this computer, my internet in general is fine), to random encoding errors and all kinds of other stuff. Worst of all, many of my applications simply don't work, don't work right, or give me bizarre errors I can't get past. Also, my browsers, save for Firefox, basically don't work at all (or enough to go through with this process) but Firefox can only run in safe mode (which is what I'm working under as I type this). I don't know if that has something to do with the fact that... I download the DDS tool instructed to me to post a case here... but I get nothing when I try to open it. Either nothing at all happens or I get a windows message telling me it "is not a valid Win32 application." So am I screwed or is there some other possible way? I've treied disabling script blockers and all of that, but still no dice. What to do? Would starting Windows in safe mode work? Thanks.
